Kate Fletcher on BBC Radio 4
Author Kate Fletcher, Professor of Sustainability, Design and Fashion Systems in the Manchester School of Art was the expert on the BBC's Rare Earth with presenters Tom Heap and Helen Czerski, talking with Patrick Grant of the Sewing Bee and Simon Platts, sustainability consultant.
People are really beginning to take heed of the warnings about excessive textile production. It's hugely important for us to rethink the way we buy and discard our clothes, but also changing the rules about production too.
Fletcher's Almanac, Vol I , gives a voice to a new culture of reuse and thoughtful wearing, mending and taking care.
A beautifully illustrated pocket-sized book to take with you on your forays into nature, the book is only 100 x 150mm. This is a limited edition, with the second volume of Fletcher’s Almanac coming next year, so snap yours up before they all sell out.
I was heartened to see people at the Selvedge Winter Fair buying it as a stocking filler for their young people, to encourage them away from fast fashion.

Rare Earth is on BBC Sounds so you can listen again. After you listen to this you might never see your clothes the same way again.
